The minutes were approved for the last meeting, with the addition of Gale Baker being in attendance.
Vice President’s report:
Buddy Purvine has not seen last years membership numbers yet, having just taken the new seat. Jim Duelmer will provide that to Buddie. It was stated that we will set a goal for new members for the year once the numbers have been reviewed.
Membership Dues:
Buddy motioned that dues be raised to $175 per year to include lunch costs. Companies with multiple members would pay $100 for a second member. This would become effective with the next invoices issued in July.
Curt amended Buddy’s motion to say that new members who join at a meeting mid-year will have prorated dues. Jim Duelmer seconded the motion.
Jim Duelmer and Steve Claire will get with Ron Smith, in charge of membership, to decide on the final details of collecting dues for members who join in a month other than July.
Kirby stated that other clubs have increased dues and that it will be easier for people to keep track of payment if they pay in one lump sum, rather than paying for lunch each month. Kirby also suggested paying on-line at the SBA website.
Curt motioned visitors pay $15 for lunch and additional guests pay $10, Kirby Winters Second the motion.
The By-laws will have to be reviewed, and Kirby offered to do this, then send a letter to members with the proposed changes for approval.
Committee Reports:
Newsletter: Steve Claire suggested using Office Max to create a four page, double-sided newsletter at a cost of $320/mo. The publication can be completely funded by ads placed by SBA members. The newsletter is circulated in the businesses of SBA members and other businesses in Smyrna. Buddy suggested we e-mail the newsletter as well.
Old Business:
Website: Kirby Winters let us know the website has been switched over to Solar Velocity and will continue to be updated. The new website will have more capabilities and will benefit the club in many ways. The secretary’s notes will also be posted on the web moving forward.
Speakers: Buddy Purvine will contact Sam Olens to speak at the August meeting. It was also stated that we could have members who would like to speak to the group on back-up, in case a scheduled speaker can not attend.
Scholarships: Jim Duelmer let the Board know that the two scholarship checks have been sent to the respective schools.
New Business:
SBA Business After Hours: Russ Lutterbie suggested an Alive After Five/ Business After Hours event be held once per month. Businesses within the Association will sponsor events and from time-to–time we will hold the event on the Village Green. These events will be planned for the 2nd Thursday of each month. Steve Claire offered to sponsor the first event on the second Thursday in August. Sponsorship includes paying for the food provided at the event or a donation of $150 to the SBA.
Curt motioned we again donate $500 to MUST Ministries for their back to school supplies program.
The Board was reminded to bring door prizes to the regularly scheduled meetings.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:30.
